Why Hot Water Bottles Are Essential for Cold Winter Nights
Share
Cold evenings are easier to enjoy when warmth is close at hand. A covered hot water bottle is a simple, portable option for the sofa, desk or for pre-warming a bed before sleep. Choosing the right style and using it correctly are the keys to a comfortable winter routine.
A practical source of portable warmth
Once filled, a hot water bottle does not need to remain connected to a socket. It can move with you between rooms and sit inside a cover that suits your home. A 2L bottle offers a generous full-size option, while smaller capacities are lighter to carry.
Pre-warm the bed, then remove it
Place the covered bottle under the bedding for a short period before bedtime. Check that it is not leaking and remove it before getting into bed. Never sit, lie or sleep on a standard hot water bottle.
Keep hands and feet cosy
On the sofa or at a desk, keep the cover fitted and place the bottle near cold hands or feet without pressing your body weight onto it. Move it regularly and avoid prolonged contact with one area of skin.
Choose a winter-ready cover
- Knit covers create a classic seasonal look.
- Plush and fleece covers provide a soft finish.
- Character and pattern covers add colour to a room or make a thoughtful seasonal gift.
- Removable covers allow easier bottle inspection and separate care.
Use it safely every time
All OliviaLiving hot water bottles are certified to BS 1970:2012. Before each use, remove the cover and inspect the bottle and stopper. Do not use it if it is cracked, brittle, damaged, worn or leaking.
- Never use boiling water; allow freshly boiled water to cool.
- Never heat the bottle in a microwave or oven.
- Fill no more than two-thirds full and carefully expel excess air.
- Tighten the stopper and check for leaks over a sink.
- Keep the cover fitted and avoid prolonged direct skin contact.
- Children require continuous responsible adult supervision.
Store it ready for the next cold night
Empty the bottle completely after use and store it with the stopper removed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat. Regular inspection is important throughout the season.
